Buxton Caravan Site

This story happened on: 26/10/2014

Buxton Caravan Site is located on the outskirts of Buxton, hidden in a valley surrounded by trees, not easily visible from the road. Saying that, it is within easy reach of Buxton itself both by car and foot.
The natural dip in the landscape provides shelter from the weather (very useful in the recent windy conditions). A large slab of exposed quarry rock provides a protective wall and a dramatic feature to an already pictureque location. The surrounding countryside is punctuated by rocks and dotted with sheep. Buxton Caravan Site is long and narrow, with cul-de-sacs in which to pitch your caravan or motorhome. There is only one toilet block, situated in the centre and one playground. We, not surprisingly, pitched up between the two! The playground was rated by the girls as one of the best because there was a range of play equipment and a large open space in which to play games.
Neighbouring the caravan site, is Grin Low Country Park where there are plenty of walks to Solemn's Temple, Go Ape, Poole's Cavern and Buxton itself - all well worth a visit.
We stayed on this site for four nights and could of happily stayed longer. The wardens were very welcoming and helpful (when we had technical problems). I'm sure we'll return some time next year after they reopen in April.
