West Wales holiday

This story happened on: 03/02/2013

We had long promised ourselves a trip to the Gower in Sth Wales having seen fantastic pictures of the area and last year we took the plunge.  We arrived at Gowerton the week before the queens Jubilee.  The site was excellent and the wardens extremely helpful.  The sun graced us with its presence all week and no way were we heading home.  When we left Gowerton or our next stop at Aberaeron club site they were making preparations for Jubilee celebrations. Unfortunately, because the wardens at the Aberaeron site had just taken over, there were no celebrations planned there.  Aberaeron town is home to a manufacturer of delicious ice cream and quite a few mornings were spent sitting on the harbour trying new flavours. The harbour is also home to a fishmonger and we had some of the freshest fish we have ever eaten.  One night we sat in our awning and tucked into an enormous lobster accompanied by salad, champagne and birdsong. Wonderful!, Our final call in Wales was a cl right underneath Cader Idris.  A perfect spot for some serious walking.  The only problem was that the weather had turned and it rained and rained and rained.  We went out one day and returned to find the road to the cl closed due to flooding and just managed to reach the site before the deepest bit.  Luckily, we were on the only hardstanding which was slightly raised.  The waters of the stream alongside the cl rose and the trailer tent, the only vehicle unit on site, was abandoned in 18inches of water.  We left the following morning when the road opened but later that others were not so fortunate as us and had their nearby caravans washed away.  Has all this put us off caravanning?  Don't be silly, we are now planning our usual 15 wks away for this year.  We might give Wales a miss though!

I remember seeing those flooded caravans on the news, glad you managed to avoid the worst! The Cader Idris area is lovely isn't it?Smile
