commons wood

This story happened on: 29/08/2012

I was asked to write a review on commons wood and Deleted User the email, not sure this is the right place? I'll do it anyway in case anyone finds it useful or would like to agree/disagree with my views.

The site is easy to get to, very handy for London, well laid out and offers pitches in full sun or almost full shade - something for everyone. I stayed there three times over the summer. A number of pitches have hedges around them and seem very popular. The staff are excellent - helpful and friendly. The single toilet block was clean but the showers could do with a bit of a boost and there was a bit of a queue for the single washing machine. When the site was full the central green looked very crowded with vans uncomfortably close together , although this was probably more due to people parking wrongly or moving the pegs than anything else.

Given the location  I did not expect tranqulity and expected a certain amout of round noise but was not prepared for the demolition of a nearby building!

The main point I wanted to raise was about children on bikes - future Chris Hoy's. The site is one way with a speed limit to protect children. However, one group on bikes showed complete disregard for the one way, the speed limit or pedestrians. Twice I had to dodge bikes being ridden recklessly on grass no more that thee foot from the entrance to my awning. Apparently their dad said they could do what they wanted - Sorry dad they can't we all sign up to a code and they are your responsibility!

Was the building being demolished part of the hospital next door? I was at Commons Wood for the May holiday and it was nice and quiet then! Smile

steveretired comments about children on bikes passing too close to his awning, this is what the site wardens are there for report your issues to them and they should deal with it. If we don't report these things we can not expect them to be addressed.
