Timely Warning!

My wife and I bought a new Bailey Unicorn Vigo in August and enjoyed several trips in it, seemingly without any problems. After our last trip I winterised it by draining the water, emptying the flush tank, cleaning the interior and exterior and removed all foodstuffs. Job done you would have thought. Luckily, we keep our c/van on our drive, otherwise we would not have realised that our c/van had become infested with mice. I had cause to go to the outside access to the bed locker and found piles of nuts and leaf bedding just inside. I set mouse traps and I think I have caught all of them now. My next thought was how they got in in the first place. I crawled under the van and was astonished to find that there were multiple holes in the floor that had been left unprotected. Several of these holes were as a result of mis-placed drilling for the water drain valve and the central heating drain. Instead of blocking their first mis-placed attempt, the fitter just enlarged the hole with a drilling alongside, but in the correct position. I have now spent an afternoon filling all the holes with sealer to keep the little bu....s out. If our new van had been put into storage for the winter I shudder to think what damage would have been done before we got to it for next year!! Of course, this would not have been covered by the insurance as vermin damage is excluded. I brought this to the attention of Baileys customer service and after several emails they seem not to care less. You would think that preventing vermin ingress was a prime consideration, but apparently not in Baileys eyes. I would add that we have had many caravans in over 50 years of touring and have never had this problem before. Its probably Bailey specific!!! Anyway, my advice to fellow members is try to check your caravan periodically.
