A word of warning to anyone insured with E&L Insurance.

This story happened on: 28/07/2012

I was rather suprised this morning to recieve a letter in the post reminding me that my caravan insurance was shortly due for renewal and that my direct debit would be increased. I took out a new policy with E&L in April when I exchanged my trusty old Compass Omega for a shiny new Swift Freestyle and so I knew something was amiss straight away. Particularly worrying is a bold headline stating that "THIS IS AN IMPORTANT DOCUMENT WHICH, IF NOT ACTED UPON, WILL RESULT IN CHANGES BEING MADE TO YOUR POLICY".

I immediately phoned E&L and after a long winded sales pitch was told that actually the policy was not up for renewal and that the increase was due to an optional offer of some improved cover (I am already more than adequately covered on their highest level available) and a package of "Partner Offers", having flicked through the "Partner Offers" most of them are freely available or things that I simply would never be interested in.

The point that I'm making is that the letter is totally misleading and nowhere does it mention that the increase in direct debit is an optional offer if you do not call E&L it will automatically be applied. Had I not renewed in April this would have been the time that my old policy was due for renewal and I probably wouldn't have queried the increase.  If you also insure with E&L and recieve a similar letter be aware of what you are being charged for, it's only a couple of pounds but it is the decption which has got me annoyed. I doubt I will be renewing with them next time.

I have found the Club insurance is well worth it & there are no dodgy offers just the annual reminder particularly with the new for old being extended to 10 yrs
