Post It from Les Rivages, Millau, Midi-Pyrénées, France 7th June 2013.

This story happened on: 07/06/2013

We arrived here on the 5th June and planned to spend 5 nights, or until the weather changed. Our original plans had been to only spend 3 nights and then move North stopping and sightseeing but due to the forecast of poor wet weather we decided to spend as long as we could with the sun. As it happened we are leaving in the morning before the rain and thunderstorms arrive and we will cover the 600 or so miles to Calais in two stops so we can spend our final 3 nights in France in dry and sunnier weather.

The campsite is beautifully placed on the edge of the river just a short stroll from the centre of Millau. The pitches are very large and we were fortunate enough to get on one right on the edge of the river so we could set up side on looking out across the river at the viaduct which was built to bypass the town itself. Our location made it peaceful with just the occasional sound of traffic during the day from the main road into town that we had driven along to get here. On our way down into the gorge we managed to stop and get parked in the rather small, for motorhomes, parking area at the viewpoint of the gorge and viaduct.

We also shared our pitch with quite a number of mallard ducks who seemed pretty friendly and enjoyed a bun or two. They were good entertainment for Smokee, who had never seen a duck before, and they kept him occupied from his window viewpoint.

We have crossed the viaduct before by car but have never visited Millau at all. When we went for a stroll we were pleasantly surprised how nice it was given that it was a proper working town after all. Friday was market day and we enjoyed passing amongst the many stalls selling food and clothing. Once again we were surprised with the prices, paying 4.70e for 4 oranges and a lemon on the market itself and 98 cents for two small potatoes at a supermarket.

Regards, Roy
