Post It from Campsite Puzol, Puçol Valenciana, Spain Friday 19th April 2013.

This was our third ACSI site and was down close to the beach just to the north of Valencia city. The site was made up of a lot of pitches occupied by Spanish family holiday homes and a quite large separate area for tourers. The site was very typically Spanish in that it was full of old, and some not so old, caravans supplemented with awnings, gazebo’s sheds and anything else they could physically fit onto their plot of land. Every bit of outdoor space was used and every attempt had been made to make it a home from home.

We enjoyed the fresh Mediterranean air with a walk along the almost deserted promenade and saw three sunbathers in swimwear, obviously Northern Europeans, as we saw some Spanish people well wrapped up in their winter woollies.

We must have looked well out of place in our shorts and T shirts as it is still too cold for the locals, at 19 degrees. The temperatures were a pleasant drop from the previous two days, when we arrived at Orthez it had been 30 degrees and 24 at Zaragoza. A far cry from what we had left behind in East Yorkshire.

We had immediate neighbours of the feathered variety nesting in the tree on our pitch. It looked like a sparrow at first but smaller, then we saw the mothers yellow breast and when I had internet access I searched and think it was a Grassland Yellow Finch.

Being Friday saw the many families descend for the weekend and in typical Spanish style they were noisy, after all they are the noisiest Nation in the northern hemisphere and from our own experiences they just get on with life without much of a care for others. Quite a lot of the plots had lovely flowers in full bloom and it was good to see the rows of palm trees again along the promenade.

I spent the night typing my Post It’s whilst Sharon watched Spanish television. What did surprise me was that at each campsite I tuned the television into the local channels to see what was available and without exception we found we could get quite a few English language programmes, mainly movies of CSI type programmes, particularly in France. There was enough to make me feel that getting a satellite dish was not necessary.
