Post it from Camping L’Olympic, Wimereux, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France 12th June 2013.

This story happened on: 13/06/2013

We arrived at this municipal site on 11th June after a gentle drive up from Dieppe. We chose this site because of its proximity to the town centre and someone we had met on our travels had said it was fine. The alternatives were a little more away from the coast and set in or around villages with less to see. The site was very undulating ground and for the first time we actually camped very close to the toilet block and also needed to use the blocks at different levels to get us something like even. It was on the main road into Wimereux, an old Victorian style seaside holiday resort, and gave easy access on foot to the promenade and all the shops and restaurants.

The site was pretty basic with only two showers in each block close to us but it did have very hot water for everything, including the pot washing. There were quite a lot of static caravans on the site and whilst it was basic it felt quite good and welcoming.

The town consisted in the main of a beautiful promenade, albeit shut up, and one main road of pleasant shops. We enjoyed a lovely meal at the restaurant near to the Marie on the main street and for a change felt we had excellent value. We also bought some odds and ends to take home with us.

A very pleasant site in an excellent location and about 40 minutes’ drive from the ferry at Calais. Well worth the two nights stay. It was just a pity the rain could not hold off and the sun did not shine to finish the holiday on the continent off. Still we had London and a visit to our son and another stop on our way north to visit friends in Leicestershire to look forward to.

Regards, Roy
