Post It from Camping Ferienpark Terrassencamping, Sud-See, Walchsee, Tyrol, Austria. Wednesday 17th

This story happened on: 17/06/2015

The drive along the edge of the Triglav National Park in Slovenia showed some aspects of the beautiful countryside that it held, the first two photos are views into the park as we headed for Tarvisio just across the border in Italy. The roads were not great but the views more than made up for it and it was a pleasure not to be on the motorway or driving through the Karawanken Tunnel again.

From here we jumped just a few junctions along the A23/A2 motorways into Austria before once again taking the scenic route up the valley to Kotschach then north via Lienz, the Felbertauern Tunnel, costing 10€ and through St. Johann in Tirol before arriving in Walchsee.

The journey covered some 186 miles of beautiful scenery, many steep climbs and declines with the tightest hair pin bends I have ever driven around and Bessie behaved faultlessly. As we passed through the Grob Glocken resort area we had the pleasure of seeing what I can only presume as being glaciers although I know it was not the Grob Glockner glacier as it was to the west of us and not the east. Unfortunately Sharon forgot to capture the photo of the magnificent mountain views on the small camera to upload with the story but I took some with the big camera which I may add later.

It had been a long day’s drive when we arrived around 1645, having left Bled at 0930, and we were both very tired. Even Smokee did not wake up for his tea! This campsite looks really good, on the edge of the lake and surrounded by the Kaiser Mountains. The lady at the reception gave us a lot of information of things to see and do in the area and free passes to public transport and car parking in the region as well as many discounts. The facilities were once again top notch, as we had come to expect from Austrian camp sites and I am sure we shall pay another visit here and get a chance to ride the bikes.

All we wanted to do this time was cook tea and I took a few photographs from the site for the album. At least I managed to write the story tonight and post them online thanks to the free Wi-Fi from the pitch. Into Germany tomorrow and closer to a few days visiting Luxembourg and a chance to relax from the driving.

Regards, Roy
