Post It from Camping de la Source, Orthez, Aquitaine, Wednesday 17th April 2013

This story happened on: 21/04/2013

Our fourth consecutive day of travelling saw us cover around 300 miles in the day, the most so far. Because we had main national route roads to travel on we made good time and pressed on closer to the Somport Tunnel so that we could enjoy a shorter day crossing the Pyrenees to Zaragoza the next day.

We stopped at the municipal site in Orthez, located on the edge of a small river in the town itself. First appearance was not too good, we could not find the site staff and there were a couple of what appeared to be travellers on the site and we later discovered that a number of French people actually lived permanently on the site and went to work each morning.

The site was tidy, if a bit basic, the water was hot and the toilets and showers were clean if a bit dilapidated. At 11.40 Euros a night then what could you expect. We slept with the vehicle alarm on all night in case anyone wanted to try the doors or get into the garage. The next morning we awoke without any problems and there was a slight mist in the air, no doubt what kept the area so green. We set off to cross the Pyrenees’ via the Somport Tunnel.
