Post It from Abbey Wood, London. 19th – 29th March, 2015

This story happened on: 30/03/2015

I don’t usually post stories from places we have written about before unless something special or unusual has happened but on our 10 night stay at Abbey Wood this time we visited the ‘Skygarden’. The building is commonly called the Walkie Talkie and is probably more famous as being the new one with the curved glass sides that caused the street below to burn from the suns reflection. It is located on Fenchurch Street in the heart of the City of London and can now boast the highest roof top garden in the UK at 36 stories high. There are eateries in the garden and those just wishing to visit and enjoy the views can do so for free but you have to pre book online HERE. I have posted some of the photos taken from the garden but must say the day was not a good one for photographs and this website’s restrictions on size of image do not do the views justice.

Our stay at Abbey Wood to visit family was enjoyable but I must say the large amount of redevelopment on the rail network meant that on both weekends the local train station was closed which meant the alternative bus service to get to a station made for longer journeys into the City. We found that often the best way was to catch the 180 bus to Woolwich Arsenal and then connect with the DLR to Bank. I even managed to finally get photographs of the Woodpeckers that frequent the campsite.

Regards, Roy

Royandsharon I love those new buildings, so many in one area, did you see the Cheese Grater too?! Next time I'm in London I'm going to do a city walk, the Lloyds Building still holds a fascination. There s a good view of the new buildings from the Millenium Bridge. Thanks for the info about the Walkie Talkie, I didn't know about the Sky Garden.
