Out and About: Broomfield Farm Caravan Club Site (East Sussex)

This story happened on: 13/06/2014

Broomfield Farm Caravan Club Site in East Sussex is on my doorstep so I thought I would share some of the many fantastic places and attractions in the area for anyone considering staying here.

Where to stay?

Broomfield Farm Caravan Club Site

Broomfield Farm Caravan Club Site is set in 11 acres and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. With the option to pitch in either the meadow or the wooded area there’s also views towards the stunning South Downs.

You can expect a friendly welcome from Alison and Clint the wardens and as a Tour for £12 site it offers excellent value and is a good base to explore the local area and some of the many wonderful attractions nearby.

CL Sites

There are also a number of fantastic CL Sites in the area in ideal locations for exploring the local scenery. These include:

Coopers Croft Garden Centre

Rosewood Farm

Cider House Farm

The Laughing Fish Public House

You can also use the search by map function to find alternative Club and CL Sites in the region and to read their reviews.

Beautiful countryside to explore...

The South Downs and the Ashdown Forest are all a short drive away from Broomfield and perfect for anyone who loves walking, geocaching, cycling and nature and wildlife.

The Ashdown Forest

With six and a half thousand acres of forest and heathland, the Ashdown Forest is a beautiful place to walk, geocache and explore and has plenty of attractions that will appeal to all ages.

Ashdown Forest was also the home of A.A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin. Visit Pooh Corner in the village of Hartfield and enjoy a beautiful walk to the world famous Poohsticks Bridge.

The South Downs

The South Downs National Park covers an area of 1,600km2 and takes in some breathtaking views. You can enjoy a walk on the South Downs Way which stretches for 100 miles from the White Chalk Cliffs at Eastbourne in East Sussex, to Winchester in Hampshire.

The Long Man of Wilmington, often referred to as the guardian of the South Downs, is a 235 foot high representation of a man cut into the chalk of the hill, and is just over a 20 minute drive from Broomfield. The impressive sight is well worth a visit and there are some lovely walks nearby.

Whilst staying in the area you can visit Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters or why not try the National Trust’s Birling Gap circular three mile walk from The Tiger Inn to enjoy views of the downs and dramatic coastline – although remember to keep your dog on a lead as there are some steep cliff edges.

‘Great Days Out’ member savings

And don’t forget your Great Days Out vouchers as there are a few Caravan Club member offers you can take advantage of in the area, including:

Knockhatch Adventure Park: Two for the price of one

Set in 80 acres of countryside, Knockhatch is great for families. Some of the attractions include falconry centre, indoor play centre, outdoor adventure playgrounds, boating lake, waterslide, go karts, mini quads and a petting farm.

The Observatory Science Centre: One child free with a full paying adult

Located adjacent to Herstmonceux Castle, the world famous astronomical observatory offers a hands-on experience amongst the domes and telescopes. This is an educational charity and has some fascinating indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Local history

Herstmonceux Castle

I visited Herstmoceux recently and the 15th century castle looked magnificent as the sun sparked down on the moat and the brick walls of the castle. The Elizabethan gardens and parkland are truly stunning set in 600 acres and there are some lovely walks in the grounds, including the nature trail which takes you along some beautiful woodland paths where you can discover 300 year old Chestnut trees, the Secret Garden and other surprises along the way.

The castle operates as an international study centre but castle tours are available where you can learn about its fascinating history.  These are £2.50 for adults but it is advisable to check beforehand to find out what times these are for the day that you plan to visit. The grounds and gardens are £6 per adult and IMHO I would say they are well worth a visit to anyone in the area and its approximately a 25 minute drive from Broomfield Farm.

Family Fun

Drusillas Park

Drusillas Park is a fantastic zoo for all the family to enjoy, giving people the opportunity to get close to nature. The walk through exhibits offer a fantastic experience and include the Bat Cave and Lemurland. You can also take a wide on Thomas the Tank Engine through the llama paddock or have fun in one of the play areas.

Steam Enthusiasts

If you’re staying at Broomfield Farm there are a few steam lines in the area offering an insight into steam trains and glimpses of beautiful countryside.

The Bluebell Railway recently extended its line and it now goes to and from East Grinstead (in fact I can sometimes hear the whistle of a steam train from my desk)!

Then there is the Lavender Line which is a 2 mile round trip located in the Parish of Little Horsted and just under 6 miles from Broomfield.

A little further away you will also find the Kent and East Sussex Railway.

So whether you’re a family, a couple or a group of friends there’s plenty to see and do in and around Broomfield Caravan Club Site, too much for me to list here!
