First trip to Holland

This story happened on: 10/08/2014

Our first week abroad with the caravan starts off with a potential disaster. On opening the caravan door I find the floor soaked with water.A few expletives later, the cause is discovered. The sunroof has leaked around the edge.Out comes the ladder,on the roof I go armed with copious amounts of sealant.Loads and loads of sealant go on,and then I just wait and hope.So,4pm arrives and we are all ready to rock and roll.Jessica (the Range Rover) and Roger (the Abbey 418) are hitched and looking good. All the provisions are stocked, essentially the bacon and part cooked bread and tea bags.Harwich here we come.Three hours of trouble free driving later we are at the docks.Bit of a delay here for some reason, but as the saying goes "have caravan, make tea".On to the ferry we go,overnight to Hoek van Holland on the Stena Hollandica. What a lovely ship.We had burger and chips and a pint, expensive but very nice, and well needed.Off to bed in one of the cabins which turned out to be very pleasant, comfy bunks and a good shower, just what one needs.Arrived refreshed in Holland then a 45-60 mins journey to Camping Koningshof, near Rijnsburg.Sat-nav took us right to the door, but it was also well signed.Booked in by a very welcoming staff member, who as usual in Holland spoke perfect English, better than mine !!. Found our allocated pitch, which was still occupied. The checkout time is 11am and as it was only 10 am I wasn't concerned.Off we went to the little on site shop, well stocked with all sorts of goodies, and to familiarise ourselves with the site.We got back to the car about 11:15, and was not amused to see the occupant not gone, indeed not even packed away and yakking to his neighbour.I kept quiet but my look of daggers said it all.Anyway,by 12 we was all set up,so off for lunch we went. The cafe on site looked welcoming so burger and chips it was.Back to the 'van to chill out, then came the storm.Did it rain or what ?? The heavens opened and the wind howled, but we weren't fussed, out came the kettle again, more tea.No plans for tonight so making use of the free wi-fi to write to you all.And the best bit ---- no leaks in the roof vent.
