A day out with Trams at Crich!

This story happened on: 26/03/2012

Back in 2009 we met up with friends of ours for the bank holiday weekend at Moor Edge Farm CL, a wonderful little CL if you want stunning views across the Matlock Valley. They have EHU's and a small toilet cum shower room. All the facilities you need really.

On the Saturday we thought a morning at Crich Tramway Museum would be fun so we set off early (for us!) and got there just as the place opened! I was able to watch and photograph them getting a couple of trams ready for the day's workings.

The place is a really well done street representing how a typical town would have been with cobbled streets and trams! There was a pleasant tea room where we had a coffee stop, and later a light snack lunch.

In the meantime i found they also had a older telephone box with a button A and button B, which was still working and connected to the national phone network! I hope it is still there.

We managed throughout the day to ride up and back on a different variety of trams. The route takes you out of their 'town street' and along the top of a ridge for a mile or so where you get wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

In fact, we enjoyed our day so much that not only did we sit and watch the trams go by while having coffe and lunch, but we also stopped for a really nice cup of tea (I think they do cream teas too) before we headed back to site, before popping down the road for a great pub meal in the evening!

Crich National Tramway Museum is a great place to visit, and if you pay with gift aid addition, you get a whole year's free readmission!

Yes, that's a good tip to pass on. I did it, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to go back within the 12 months!
