Walsrode Vogel (Bird) Park

This story happened on: 02/05/2015

During our Easter break in Germany we spent a day at this fantastic bird park.  If you are in the area of Hannover, Bremen, Hamburg, Oldenburg then a day trip is possible.  If you have a motorhome you can park on a large area of the park, although I don’t think there are any facilities i.e EHU, water etc..

The park has 24 hectares of parkland which is beautifully landscaped and contains some several hundred species of plants

There is a 4 kilometre circular route around the garden which takes you passed all the enclosures.  There are indoor and outdoor flying displays twice a day which are fantastic.  One of the highlight for me was the flight of Chilean Condor.  The birds are fantastic although a lot in aviaries there are significant numbers roaming about.  Owls, Storks, Cranes, to Budgies and Shoebills.  Birds from every corner of the globe. There are 4000 birds with 675 different species

 Opening hours 2015

21 March to 1 November 15

Daily from 1000hrs

The park regret that dogs are not allowed into park. Dog kennels (2×3 meters), incl. fresh water and lying surface) are available free of charge

All paths have easy access and are wide enough for prams, strollers and wheelchairs. There are four disabled easy-access toilets in the park.

The park lend out walkers and wheelchairs for free, please reserve them early by e-mail or phone.

Persons who have a disability of 80% in their handicapped ID receive a special ticket price.

The sounds of over 4,000 birds housed in their well decorated and species specific aviaries and exhibits will accompany you with a brilliant display of feathered colour.

The average duration of a visit is 4 to 6 hours. If you want to relax there are over 300 benches, 2 restaurants and 2 snack bars.

I agree excellent place to visit. Went quite a few years ago. Glad to see its still as good. Being a birdwatcher it was good to see so many species in one place.
