First time touring, first time to the Lakes!

Hi I’m Amy, I work in the marketing department at the Caravan and Motorhome Club and this weekend I’ll be embarking on a lot of firsts! It’ll be my first time in a motorhome (driving and living), first time staying on Club sites and first time to the Lake District.

I really enjoy being outdoors and wanted to experience the lifestyle our members love. I’m hoping to do a lot of outdoor activities whilst I’m away including cycling, hiking, running, horse riding and hopefully standup paddleboarding. Plus I’m looking forward to exploring the charming villages, beautiful scenery and hopefully some fantastic pubs!

At the moment, I’ve planned to stay in Troutbeck Head first stop then travel down to Coniston Park Coppice. But with the flexibility of being in a motorhome and a choice of sites in the Lake District, I’d be happy to take any recommendations and mix up my plans!

As a first timer, I think a full facility site will be great for at least my first night, but I am keen to try Borrowdale – what would you recommend?

I was very nervous about driving the motorhome, so luckily a few weeks ago I attended a training course (on a very wet day!) with the Club. The first hour was spent learning to park and drive around obstacles and the second part was out on country roads, main roads and through towns. The training was invaluable and the instructor gave so many great tips.

I've read in reviews that it's best to follow the directions in the UK Sites Directory. Any other tips for getting to these sites? Or things to watch out for a first time motorhomer?

Additionally…I love a good pub, are there any within walking distance of these sites? Any with good draft beer will keep my boyfriend happy!
