Strange Places

This story happened on: 21/03/2012

My husband and I decided to visit Garlieston CC Site last year-we were drawn by the lovely gallery pictures on the website, which looked peaceful and tranquil.

After an epic journey from East Lothian we arrived at a beautiful site and lovely village-but there was something wrong -it was like the land that time forgot  !!

It had a very small shop and very small expensive shop and the village itself was VERY VERY quiet !!

We were urged by the wardens to visit the local pub as it had character-we were not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing-so we gave it a miss-but I tell you it gave a very strong indiaction of the village residents as I have never seen such a long line of motability scooters parked outside at opening time !

The village housing estate was somewhat bizarre as most residents had chickens roaming about their gardens-common practice in this neck of the woods I  was told. Not that I am casting aspersions but the WICKER MAN was filmed down the road.

The local supermarket was miles away so make sure you stock up in groceries and liquid refreshment( I tell you you can tell the caliber of site visitors by what is deposited in the bottle bank-we had empty champagne bottles-I was quietly impressed !! )

If you are looking for beautiful scenery and site then GARLIESTON is your site for you-but beware you will feel like that last people in the world and that was a very strange feeling indeed!

Chickens in villages, whatever next (cows in fields!?) Seriously though you missed out on a nice little pub where Caravan Club members are very welcome.

No apparently-it is local by-law that it s encouraged to have them roaming in the council house area-almost everyone had them-quite funny-where I stay this is a big no no!!

If you're visiting this neck of the woods, you're much better off at the New England Bay site where we have spent many happy holidays. There are well stocked shops in the local villages and Stranraer has a decent Morrisons and Tesco Express.

We took a run to Garlieston, lovely scenery but nothing would have tempted us to stay there.
