Golden Sands, Mablethorpe, don't have your expectations to high

This story happened on: 23/09/2012

I juar want to let other members know of my experience, especially as Haven offer a discount to caravan club members, this is only for the Golden Sands site.

My expectation of this park was to at least have similar facilities as the Caravan Club, especially as Haven's website says they have  ..."award winning touring and camping facilities."  In my opinion this is not the case.

Security is very sadly lacking, there is no check on who drives on and off the site at all, and the security codes to the toilet/bathrooms did not work at all on my stay.  Haven's response to me was that they do have security that monitor CCTV and do patrols, but I believe this is not enough. This is, according to Haven, ...."aids to keep the park secure whilst retaining the look and feel of a holiday park without barricading people in. The door code not working is apparently down to Guest's leaving the door open during peak periods!

The wash room facilities are sadly lacking, although Haven reassured me that they have the correct number of facilities for the size of the touring park.  I found this not to be the case and also there are no separately cubicles to just washing rather than shower.  Trying to shower between 7.30 - 9.30 is a waiting game.

Another "waiting game" is filling up the aqua roll, they have pressures set quite low and the taps are set to automatically switch off after a few minutes - quite frustrating.

If you do go to this park, try and get a pitch near the trees for shelter, it is very flat with very little cover.  I compared it to a barren field.  My expectations from the description on their website, ......"beautifully landscaped Holiday Parks", were dashed very quickly.  In their letter to me Haven states ...."The landscape of our park mirrors that of the local area, i.e. costal flats.....".

Do not expect to be anywhere near the facilities, the Touring & Camping site seems to be a separate from the main park, and it is quite a long walk, especially in the rain!

Finally, the Touring shop does not sell touring accessories, i.e. chemicals for toilet and is only open for a few hours a day.

Our family will not be returning to this site!
