Heart felt May weekend

This story happened on: 21/03/2012

In May both myself and my wife Margaret decided to go to Killin for the May Weekend. It so happened that my friend Gordon and his wife Karen were celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary that same weekend. This was because they had gone to Killin on their honeymoon prior going onto to Blair Atholl. for this reason they decided to celebrate their 1st anniversary at the very same place.

We all got to-gether to plan the weekend which, was to included Gordon and myself playing golf on Sunday morning and the girls going into Killin. Margaret and I were going to stay in our caravan at the caraven club site, just on the outskirts of Killin (Maragowan) while, Gordon and Karen would book rooms at the Bridge of Lochay Hotel (where they stayed on their honeymoon) just along the road from the club site, infact within 5 minutes walking distance.

The plan was that Margaret and I would go up on Friday and set up the caravan ready for the weekend. Karen and Gordon would arrive on Saturday where, we would have a barbeque that night. In the morning both Gordon and I would go golfing at Killin golf course while the Margaret and Karen would go into Killin. On Sunday night we would all meet up at the Bridge of Lochay Hotel for an evening meal.

On Monday all of us would go our seperate ways with Margaret and I going back home and Karen and Gordon heading on up to Blair Atholl for the rest of the week to finish off their 1st aniversary.

How plans can go wrong. Gordon and Karen got lost coming up to Killin and instead of taking one or two hours to get to Killin from Edingburgh, they took 4 or 5 hours going via Kippin. This was because instead of taking the A84 to Callender they went into Stirling and started back along the A811 heading to Alexandria near to the bottom of Loch Lomand.

All in all they saw more of the Trossachs than they intended, eventually meeting up with the A81 near Glenfoot. From here they travelled up to Port of Menteith and then on to Callender where, they picked up the A84 and arrived at Killin at around 1:00pm, having set off from Edinburgh at 9:00am. This should have been a warning but, it did not deter us, and that night we had a lovely barbeque as planned.

At around 12:30am Sunday morning (this is when it all went wrong). Gordon had to get rushed off to Stirling hospital with a suspected heart attack. I ended up staying in the caravan that night by myself with Margaret and Karen staying at the hotel. In the moirning the three of us met up had breakfast and headed of to Stirling hospital where Gordon had been released after an over night observation. Gordon had had an episode (a sort of warning). We headed back to Killin and took the rest of the afternoon very easily, meeting up at night at the Bridge of Lochay Hotel for a lovely meal as planned (this went with out incident). Monday morning came with Karen and Gordon heading of to Blair Atholl and I deciding to play a game of golf at Killin Golf course not quite as planned with my wife.

Can't wait until the 2nd anniversary.
