First Real Trip - Wagtail Country Park, Grantham

This story happened on: 08/04/2014

After returning to caravaning after approx 14 year wait we brought out caravan last October and apart from a trial trip out then, this was our first trip out. The aim of the trip was to get Daisy, our 5 year old Labrador, used to the caravan before our main summer holiday.

The Site - We have mixed feelings of the site , the good points are that it is very well kept with excellent sized pitches. The shower block was immaculate and the warden was very friendly. We booked a fully serviced pitch and was able to set up right next to the lake. Our pitch also included our own private fishing pontoon.

The bad points were that they were having work going on to make new pitches which were right behind us but they failed to advise us of this. Also due to the works they shut off part of the dog walk only leaving a short area. We also felt that it was wrong to charge £5 per day to fish when the fully serviced pitch is advertised with your own fishing pontoon that you are already paying extra for. The WIFi is a real rip off as they charge £10 for 48 hours but you only have 400mb download. All I got in was the f1 GP on Sky go before the allowance was used up....... Approx 2 hours.

Back on the positive, we had a great time and Daisy was brilliant! She got used to the caravan life very quickly. We must find a way to stop knocking over her water bowl though!

We towed the caravan with our 07 Honda CRV which performed very well and returned 26MPG which I thought was very good considering we were towing on country roads all of the time.

We are now looking forward to our next trip out to Boston in May when we will be able to use our new awning (Kampa 390 Air) for the first time. This will be followed by 10 day's in the New Forrest then the British Grand Prix in Silverstone.
