A wee weekend away

This story happened on: 01/08/2012

After a hard week at work we decided to set off on the Friday night to for Silverbank from our home in Kirriemuir. We had picked the van up from storage a couple of days before hand and loaded up the weekend essentials, wine, wine emm some more wine ..... After a great trip up the A90 slipping off at the Stonehaven junction, a much better route than over Fettercairn and Edzell) taking the turn off to Banchory avoiding the low bridge, we arrived at the site at about 1840Hrs to be met by a nice warm greeting from our warden and the three spaniels (ah pretty).  We were offered to choose from the 4 pitches left on the site (although the web did not show when we booked that it was almost full?) ending up on a nice corner pitch, reversing in nearly on a oner, the wife thought it needed moved over a tad!!!!!)  Set up and got the kettle on, then after a wonderful home cooked meal chilled the evening away on a nice sunny night.  Saturday saw the sun caress over the site looked a wonderful morning, and seeing as our van (Oddy) Odyessy, had been in storage we decided to give it a wee clean, so brush out and ruba dub all over and Oddy was looking fab again.  With the sun shining on us we had brekkie and decided to trot off to the Banchory Show in town.  Walking down from the sight clouds started to gather and we had no brolly with us (3 in the Car!)  I was all for braving it out but Lyn wanted to go back to get a brolly so I agreed and Lyn walked back to the van and collected the big brolly!!.  Well just as well as the rain started to get a tad heavier, we got ¾ way to the show but decided to head back to site as the rain got heavier, low and behold a pub “Skinners” was on the way back to the site, well being too good to miss in we popped and a wee drink or two was had.  The heavens opened and monsoon weather took over, it poured down for the rest of the day with thunder breaks and even some lightning, mind you the pub was really cosy and after a couple of wee drinks ventured out in between the showers and made it back to the van.  Watched the Olympic opening ceremony and the Queen and 007 and that was as much as I seen before falling asleep.  Sunday was a bright morning again as we packed up in the sunshine to head home  in our clean van as we set off home the rain started again and splash marks on my van again grrr will need a wash when out next time soon.  Silverbank is a really an excellent site really nice friendly warden who provided a smashing welcome and we will be back without doubt.  Still lots to see in surrounding area (next time).
