Sat Nav's - who needs em !
This story happened on: 02/05/2014
Last year we decided to holiday at the Looe CC site as we had not been to this area for over 20 years. For the first time ever, I thought it would be nice to use the sat nav to gauge our arrival time & as I wanted to be as accurate as possible entered “St.Martin, Cornwall” as the destination. Off we set on a very familiar route of M5, A30 with me glibly following the sat nav but as we passed Culdrose airbase I suddenly had doubts and yes, I had indeed got the wrong St.Martin & added an extra 100 miles or so to our journey. Needless to say the wife was not impressed as I headed back towards Truro, St Austell & finally Looe. A very nice stay was had until the following Friday when we moved to the centenary site in the new forest as we were booked on an early ferry to Isle of Wight for our second week. As this journey was unfamiliar I checked the map first, put the details into the sat nav & then compared the two. All looked fine, but on approaching the M5 I thought the sat nav instruction to turn left onto the M5 had to be wrong ( given the previous weeks experience ) & I therefore ignored it and ended up going through Exeter on a busy Friday lunchtime in entirely the wrong direction & adding yet more extra miles to our journey ! I still find it hard to believe I made such stupid mistakes, but have never used the sat nav since whilst towing.
