Sat Nav's - who needs em !

Had my first SatNav for Xmas. Been to 3 sites with it and 2 weeks ago visited our son in Clifton. Superb bit of kit, even for an old duffer like me.

Belts and braces for me I'm afraid! Always check the map and google maps first then I can make my own decisions as to wether she is right or not, she has sent me on many a wild goose chase!!! Thankfully not with the caravan in tow, as you say, great pieces of kit though. Swifty

about four years ago treated my self to one .It was the worst bit of kit i have ever had, gave it to my son who delivers pet food in east anglia last i heard it was residing at the bottom of the river colne near colchester malc1945

A couple of years ago, I had to travel from the north of Paris to some friends several hours drive to the south. Left the campsite after rushour and my trusty Sat Nav took me first on the outer 'periphique' then the inner, then back to the outer, around Paris. Before each major change a photo flashed  up of the junction, showing which sign to follow, and I kept checking the icon which showed which of the six lanes I should be in.  When I finally turned off the 'periphique' south of Paris - I wanted to kiss the Sat Nav.

My Tom Tom, with caravanning map, has the club sites and CL's poi downloads installed. This means that I just need to tell it which site I want.

Although I have had the odd occasion where a sat nav has taken me on a longer than necessary route (they tend to favour main roads) and one where it used a road bridge closed for traffic for over 20 years, I have found them really helpful. I wouldn't be without one but you do need to use a bit care and not following them blindly. Still need to keep a map for a cross check if things look wrong.
