Widdicombe Fram Touring Park Holiday

SUNDAY 14TH JUNE 2015

Left home at 8.30 and stopped nearly 50 miles before Widdicome Farm for breakfast.  We had a really good journey and arrived at 12.15 on site.  After signing in and paying the bill we started to erect the awning and finally finished at 2 pm which considering everything was a great achievement.  We decided not to go anywhere after that and had a salad for tea and a few glasses of wine. Went to bed feeling really contended.

MONDAY 15TH JUNE 2015

Woke up to a glorious morning with the sun coming in through the sky light.  After talking to the neighbours we decided Brixham was going to be the place to visit today.  We thought we would take the doggy pushchair as we knew that we would be doing a lot of walking.  As we walked through Brixham, after the boys had done a lot of sniffing and weeing it was time to put Wesley in the pushchair and the attention this brought was amazing.  Scamp then decided that he wouldn’t walk any more as by this time the sun was really strong so he went into the pushchair and this was even more entertaining for the people of Brixham. What should have been a few minutes walk then turned into an hour walk (it was a good job we put a lot more money into the parking meter than we would normally do).  Got back to the site at 3.30 and sat outside reading and enjoying a nice Vodka and Orange.  After tea we went down to the Hayloft for a drink and met up with people who were here last year.

TUESDAY 16th JUNE 2015

Decided to try a beach nearer the site today and ended up at Broadsands which was a very quiet beach with some very nice beach huts.  Met up with a local and chatted with him for 1 ½ hours on the beach front.  Walked along the front and the boys could chase each other along the grass it was very nice and relaxing.  On the way back to the site we thought we should fill up with fuel and then we discovered a very nice pub which was doggy friendly with free WIfi.   We sat outside with a drink and chatted to local girls for the next hour. For some reason we always manage to get back to the site around 3-3.30 which is really nice as it gives us time to relax before tea.  Every Tuesday the fish and chip van comes round so we had our tea from the van tonight.

WEDNESDAY 17th JUNE 2015

The day dawned cloudy so we thought it would be a good day to try to find a site nearer to Cornwall.  We put an address into the sat nav but on arrival it wasn’t suitable as the roads were very narrow no good for caravans as you would have to back up some distance if something was coming the other way.  We decided to travel on to Cornwall and due to Joe’s observant eye we came across a Caravan Club site which was amazing so we are booking that for next year, it will be ideal for Perranporth. Fowey, St Austell etc.  After that I thought it would be nice to go to Polperro (big mistake) as the car park was a long way from the beach and Joe tried to drive through the village but half way through we decided to go back as the roads were very narrow.  We then went back to Looe and spent the afternoon walking through the town and having a very nice time.  Got back to the site at 4.30 and by this time the sun had come out and we sat outside reading.  There is a couple of people with another Westie and we sat talking to them until 7.30.  As we had a big pastie in Looe we weren’t very hungry so had salad rolls for tea.

THURSDAY 18TH JUNE 2015

We had already decided not to too far today as we travelled a lot of miles yesterday so we spent the day at the caravan.  We went down to Poppy’s to have our breakfast and read the paper (just what holidays are all about).  The weather was again very nice and we just sat outside and read, it was really nice.  For our evening we went to the Ye Old Sloppe pub and Joe had the biggest mix grill I have ever seen, needless to say that he was full up for a couple of days.  I think this was probably the warmest evening so we sat outside talking to the neighbours when we got back, a truly lovely day.

FRIDAY 19TH JUNE 2015

Wesley was sick this morning early (5am) so I let both Wesley and Scamp outside for a little walk and wee, even at that time of the morning it was very warm.  Babbacombe was the place today and poor Wesley had a bad tummy whilst we were walking.  Unfortunately I didn’t think I had many bags but as we got onto Babbacome front a very kid lady gave us some of hers so we have put them into the pushchair to make sure that we have plenty with us at all times.  The weather was again glorious and as we got further onto Babbacome Beach it looked just like Turkey with the blue sky and yachts bobbing up and down.  The walk to the beach was through a very stoney path with a lot of steps which made it difficult with the pushchair and two dogs who don’t like walking very much but we made it.  After getting back to the car at 2 pm (this time we went up the cliff railway to the top of the road) we decided to go to Teignmouth which was again a lovely place.  We stayed there until 3.30 and then ventured home.  The only problem was the traffic.  Instead of taking us 20 minutes it took us over an hour to get home.  We went down to the Hayloft and couldn’t believe it when we bumped into another family who were opposite us last year.  We had a lovely evening sitting outside and chatting.

SATURDAY 20TH JUNE 2015

After having a nice cooked breakfast we have taken our time today.  We tried to find a pub near the camp this morning and ended up in Cockington.  We were going to Torquay but the traffic was very busy as Torquay had a lot of yachts leaving for a round the world trip.  Joe had never been to Cockington but I remember coming here with Linda Spacagna and her family when we were about 14.  There was a lovely tea room with beautiful gardens and a man playing the piano.  We had cream teas the first one this holiday.  It started to rain so we made our way back to the car, then it stopped and we discovered Cockington park but by this time we only and ½ left on the meter so decided to come back another day so that the boys could have a good run.  We didn’t want much for tea so just had a small salad.  The evening was spent at the Hayloft and a very good singer.

SUNDAY 21ST JUNE 2015

Paignton was the place to visit today and was it every busy.  There was an army festival with a lot of different shows being put on.  As it was father’s day family’s were everywhere.  Joe tried to win a toy on the crane but no joy.  I tried as well but didn’t get anything but a lady who went on it after me won a bear and £5 (lucky thing).  I think we could have bought tons of these things with the money we have spent but it’s all good fun.  I managed to cook a roast dinner but it took ages although we both enjoyed it.  What took about 3 hours to cook only took 15 minutes to eat.  We didn’t go down for a drink tonight just sat in the caravan and watched several films.

MONDAY 22ND JUNE 2015

Woke up to heavy rain so decided to get a WIFI card and spend a couple of hours checking e-mails.  We both had a shower and at 1 o’clock decided to take a drive out.  Goodrington was the place today and the boys had a good walk on the beach.  It was very windy but still warm.  Went back to the caravan at 3pm and by this time the sun had come out and it was very hot.  Joe fancied a Chinese meal tonight so he went to reception and got a menu.  They delivered it to reception at 7.15pm and it was lovely probably the best we have ever had even at home.  Went down to the club for a quick drink and sat talking to the neighbours.  Wesley got me up at 1.55 in the morning for a wee and the stars were beautiful.

TUESDAY 23RD JUNE 2015

Brixham today, our favourite place.  Fish and chips from the famous shop was the order of the day thoroughly enjoyed. On our way down to the harbour Joe discovered a cake shop which sold enormous cakes (needless to say he had to buy two).  We had a lovely walk through the town and many stopped us to see what was wrong with Wesley as he was in his pushchair, met some really nice people.  As it was still early (you can only have 3 hours parking) we decided to go to Broadsands for an ice-cream and walk along the park arriving back at the camp at 3pm (this seems to be the time that we return most days).  We don’t want much for tea as we seemed to be eating all day today.  At the moment Wesley won’t eat his eat which is a bit worrying but hopefully be might give it a go later tonight.  He hasn’t had that much to eat today but perhaps this is an off day for him hopefully he will eat tomorrow.  We won’t be going down tonight for a drink as there is only bingo (we say that now but when we walk the boys down for their last wee we seem to be drawn to the Hayloft).

WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE 2015

As we have never been to Dartmouth we thought we would give it a try.  Set off at 10.30 for the ferry across and drove round Dartmouth trying to find somewhere to park, no luck so we drove on the Kingsbridge through some very narrow lanes.  We came across a little beach hut selling teas so of course we had to stop for a drink and some cake.  The beach was very stoney but at least the dogs could have a good run.  Whilst sitting there the owner said that to drive back to Widdicome Farm it would be  a long way round so we decided to go back to Dartmouth and get the ferry back.  We gave it another go to try to park but it was packed, in fact I think you need to be there at the crack of dawn to get a space.  We thought that if we come again we would be here a lot earlier.  On the way back to camp we stopped off at Brixham parking at Breakwater instead of the town and walked along the harbour wall.  Joe had a honeycombe sundae and I had a glass of red.  Made our way back to the camp arriving at 4pm and sat out side until 5.30.  I cooked chicken in breadcrumbs for tea and we went down to the Hayloft and enjoyed a chat with the locals.  We can’t believe that it’s Wednesday already where has the holiday gone.  We seem to have done a lot more this year and been more adventurous and thoroughly enjoyed it.

THURSDAY 25TH JUNE 2015

As it is sunny Joe decided to take down the awning just in case it changes tomorrow.  It is still nice to sit outside the caravan.  We are going to Babbacombe today for the last time.  Had a lovely time in Babbacombe but as it was so hot we went back to the caravan early.  Went to Poppy’s for dinner and over to the Hayloft for a couple of drinks afterwards.

FRIDAY 26TH JUNE 2015

Paignton was the place today as we were trying to win a toy from the crane but no luck.  We parked at Preston Sands so that the boys could have a good walk and it was free to park.  The weather was a bit dreary so we made our way back to camp and had lunch at homing getting back just before a really big down pour but when the rain stopped the sun came out and it was a really clear sky and very warm.   We decided to go to the Hayloft for the last time and had a lovely evening sat outside talking to our neighbours.

SATURDAY 27TH JUNE 2015

Our last day at Widdicombe Farm so we decided that as we would be driving a lot tomorrow we would have a long walk today.  We found a pathway which we have never gone on before although we had stayed here for 3 years.  We followed the pathway to Maldon and to a very nice pub called the Church Inn down Lovelace Lane with beautiful grounds.  Lunch was taken there and then a long walk back to the camp site.  By this time it was very hot and thank goodness for the doggie pram as both Wesley and Scamp had a ride back home.  We sat outside the caravan for the last time this holiday and enjoyed the lovely sunshine.  We didn’t go the Hayloft tonight as we wanted to get most of the packing done.

SUNDAY 28TH JUNE 2015

For some reason I thought the time was 7.30 so Joe decided to get up.  When I opened my eyes wide after getting up it was only 6.38 so goodness knows what time Joe did get up but this meant that we were away by 9 o’clock and the rain decided to start falling from the time we left until Ringwood with the fog coming down really thick at Lyme Regis.  We got home safe and sound at 12.45 and everything was unpacked by 2.15.  After four lots of washing the end of the holiday is here.  We had a wonderful time and look forward to the next one.

£51.00 was spent on parking for the two weeks

£72.63 spent on fuel and the tank is still ½ full

Loved reading about your holiday. We looked at Widdicombe Farm but was put off by it being on a main road. Is there much noise from the road?

We have been going for the last three years and have always had a good time.  The neighbours nearby were great and we have already booked for next year
