Caravan or Motorhome - that is the question.

This story happened on: 22/09/2012

The first outfit I ever owned was a one year old 4-berth Leyland Sherpa Highwayman motorcaravan.  That was back in 1981 when I was in my early 30's.  We had wonderful touring holidays abroad and loved every minute.  We also used it for weekends away in the UK but parking was a problem in towns even in those days.

Just before our first child was born, we swopped to a 4-berth caravan and towed it with our family car.  This was mainly because there were no seatbelts for passengers in the back of the MH but also, having a family meant that we preferred to have a more static type of holiday.

When I retired recently, we bought a 2-berth motorhome primarily for touring abroad, but also for shorter trips in the UK.  We find the MH is very well suited to touring although parking it in the UK is still a problem !

So, which one would you choose ?  At the end of the day, it's down to personal choice and the type of holiday you prefer.  We have owned both and have enjoyed had wonderful times in both.

Perhaps we might return to a caravan again one day, who knows.

Its a caravan for us everytime JimE. Tend to get lots more room for your money and I do like being able to leave the 'van behind and drive off anywhere in the car - no need to pack everything away every time you want to pop to the shop/pub/restaurant/tourist attraction etc.
