Too hot for caravanning

This story happened on: 11/03/2012

Last week in June and first week in July 1980 if I remember rightly we booked a site in the New Forest for 2 weeks. It was the year of the heatwave we had a ford fiesta and a sprite alpine,we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. But in the first week we had visited most of the places we wanted to see, on the second week we mainly sat around the campsite. It was so hot in the van so sunny out we both had enough sun tan and it was so hot in the car we did not want to go out in it. With no pool on site to jump in and cool off after 10 days we decided to come back home although we had payed for 13 nights. I can't remember ever having to cut a UK holiday short for this reason before or since good old British weather.  Jim

Now you know why ACE do not hold rallies in July or August in Spain - and since most of us live in Spain, we have become somewhat acclimatised (so 30 to 34ºC is quite nice, while 20ºC is downright cold!)

Reminds me a few years back when we were in Spain during July touring and staying at Vilanova Park down by the med, it was 40c in the day and only dropped to 30c or so at night - our van was like a bakers oven with all the rooflights wide open and the blown-air on was just circulating warm air around! Several nights we actually sweated on the bed and often woke up to sit outside and try to cool down. Now we only go to Spain May-June or Sep-Oct time as it's a little more bearable but still lovely. I suppose you do become used to it! Happy vanning (& trailer tenting!). Also Benicassim (Bonterra Park) is one of our favourite places to stop and we always go back there for a few days whenever on tour. Love it!
