MarchTrip to Rutland Day 3

Saturday 24th March -Another sunny/misty start today and time to drain the motorhome grey water. Here the site is easier that most CC sites; no manhole cover to lift but just a drain channel set in a slightly depressed paved area, just park over and open the tap!

Called in at the Greetham Garden Centre to buy a 'Trip' plant for the garden and use the free wifi (as posted elsewhere) and then on the Egleton Birdwatch centre to meet friends and for great Reservoir views, lots of info and a shop selling, amongst many other items, small wheelie bin models! A binocular shop too with knowledgable owner.

Off to the Hambledon peninsula and to the Finch Arms (£12.50 for 2 very flavourful courses), very pleasant but the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the number of diners. Then did the 4 mile undulating walk around the peninsula edge with great views of the Water and yachting and through attractive woods. Definitely best to walk on the rhs of the track so that energetic 'round the water' cyclists can get by easily .. their hire bikes don't have bells!

Back to Hambledon, a very upmarket location, (one of the most expensive areas outside London I seem to recall) for tea and cakes, again at the Finch (£3.50 per head and excellent warm brownie). Interesting trees pruned and trained to a 'square umbrella' shape on the back patio.

Many large and well sited properties with views, some seemingly quite recent, one with the largest roof solar panel installation I have ever seen and another with garden located rows of panels... must be sunny in Hambledon.

Back to site by 5:30 .. it all looks pretty full. Hopefully everybody will discover the many pleasures of this extremely relaxing area around Rutland Water.

Hi

Going to Rutland ourselves soon to stay at Greetham Farm. Is this where you stayed?
