Breakdown Hell, Greenflag Heaven

This story happened on: 17/04/2012

Set off to Blackpool Friday as soon as School closes all is well until my trusty Land Rover broke down on the M61. First job get the children out of the car and on to the hillside away from the hard shoulder, this quite tramautised them, the noise of the motorway traffic and the cold did'nt help.

Called Greenflag Mayday taken out through the CC, said they would be with us in 45mins. Only 20 minutes later the recovery vehicle arrived. The guy was very friendly and efficient, got the family into the warmth of the truck first, loaded my car and hitched the caravan 10-15 mins later we were on our way to complete our trip to Blackpool.

Rang the Warden to let him know we would be a bit late, on arrival he quickly sorted out the desperate children with the toilets and helped us onto our pitch.

Best was yet to come as I could not get my car fixed locally Greenflag came back on Monday our departure day and transported family, car and caravan about 90miles back home.

Not sure if this is correct but I am told it's only Greenflag Mayday that offers this duel recovery service.

I can highly recommend the Mayday service to fellow members, I feel quite fortunate I changed from another breakdown service to Greenflag not that long ago.

I like Green Flag (May Day) taken out with the CC as they will do a double journey recovery taking you on to your holiday destination and then back home if not fixed, including a twin axle caravan. I doubt many break down services will handle a large 4wd and twin axle. It seems geared for CC members needs.

I have found Green Flag excellent whenever I have broken down. About Four times over the last fifteen years or so!! The double trip facility if you break down on the way to your holiday is a great idea.  About five years ago, my son joined us camping with his car and a tent. He was covered by my Green Flag membership and broke down about 30 miles from where we were camping on the last day of his holiday. He was given the option of being transported to a local garage or home or camp site. He would not be able to go home via the campsite to collect his camping gear.  Aparently, the two journeys only stand if you are on your way to your holiday. I don't know if this is still the case, but if it is, it is an annomoly that you need to be aware of.  Fortunately the campsite owner was willing to let us repair the car on the site.....changing the water pump in the rain with minimal tools was no fun, but it had to be done that day for him to return home for an interview.

I guess it is a case of "be aware of the small print".

We also use Green Flag for exactly the same reason.  They pick you up, take you to site and return you home if you cannot effect repairs during your stay on site.  Fortunately we have not had the misfortune to need their services, but it is comforting to know they are there.

Just joined Greenflag Mayday recently, thankfully never needed to call them Happy..but very reassuring to hear from you're breakdown experience, that they provide an excellent service.
