We live, and holiday in Ireland, (live in the North) we have a campervan and usually get away for 2 -3 days every month, with a longer holiday in August, our favourite place is Donegal!, some wonderful campsites and loads of places to stop overnight, without having to go into sites at all, In the past, when our children were small we camped with tents, though occasionally we went to a campsite, we normally just asked a friendly farmer if we could camp in his field. Now 40 years on this is not so easy, farmers are wising up! and also more and better campsite are springing up all over the place.
Also in Northern Ireland we have a wonderful arrangement called 'Touring in the Trees' you have to be a native to get one of their passes, plus key, there are 11 forests in Northern Ireland with campsites, these are very basic, water and loo disposal, and once you have paid for your key you can go to any of the sites whenever you want to right through the year! some are more popular than others and you need to get to them early in the day, specially at week-ends! There is no booking - just turn up! (6 nights in a forest park pay for the Key, going by cost of a non forest camp site).
This year we are hopeing to go over to England, travel to Stranraer, and down to Norfolk, and stay in our sons back yard! and back up to Scotland, we hope to take about 3 weeks, but need to think carefully about prices, and may have to leave all this until Easter next year, and save like mad until then!
We are open to any suggestions!
