Another day behind the wheel

This story happened on: 07/04/2017

After driving some of the best roads I've ever driven, across the mountainous ranges of Switzerland and through the Mont Blanc tunnel, I wondered if it could get any better.

Well, it's very close let me tell you, the drive from Lake Geneva to the Morvan Forest takes in some dramatic scenery including the most amazing Nantua viaduct, followed by the rolling road that sweeps you through the forest and across the undulating farm and forestry land that guides you into the Morvan Forest.

We even passed through some of the quietest French towns with nothing but a church, a bakery and a bistro to keep the residents and the occasional tourist 'topped-up' in both body and mind.

Just to back-track slightly, we started the day early so that we could make a stop in Saint-Laurent-Sur-Saône and visit one of their best regarded patisseries.

Two croissants, a pain a chocolate, 2 brioche, two cafe au lait's and cheeky eclair each for the boys later, we headed for the Morvan nature reserve.

On arrival we were greeted by the charming owner who let us park anywhere on this small but beautifully formed site, L'etang de la Fougeraie, nestled into the landscape with its own flowing stream and fishing lake with character aplenty.

The boys were able to borrow some go-carts and, being the responsible adult, I of course watched on responsibly – or irresponsibly ....whatever works.

More soon

Regards,

Harvey

Top tip: just like the UK, try and fill up at the nearest town as the motorway fuel prices are almost 20% more expensive.

Had to fill up at the fuel station in the picture! Only a couple of inches to spare when filling up with fuel. 'Everyone breathe in.'
