Skegness in t'60's

This story happened on: 16/01/2014

We have only had our little 2 berth van for 3 yrs and to say we are hooked on this lifestyle/hobby is an understatement to say the least.

We are in the midst of upgrading the 2 to a 4 berth, but it got me thinking of how it all happened.

The o/h was abroad and when she came home there was a caravan on the drive, our caravan, I didnt ask if she fancied the idea or not, I just bought it and thankfully she loves it like I do.

The last time I was in a caravan for year after year was when I was a nipper in the 60's & 70's, my parents would take us to skegness with their friends and kids and we'd all enjoy the 2/3 weeks we got.

The gas lights and other very limited pleasantries were nothing to todays luxuries but we knew no different.

So I suppose I have my parents for the caravan bug going back almost 50 yrs.

If the o/h hadnt of liked the idea I would have gone on my own but I think I knew she would enjoy it and every possible opportunity we are away.

Maybe we should plan a trip to skeggy where it all began ?

That sounds like a very good idea Andy. We love the lifestyle to and I don't want to be at home really. Regards, Roy

We used to stay on Taggs Caravan site on the Boston road and we went every other weekend when i was selfemployed many years ago. We used the railway club for entertainment at night and plenty of walks by the sea in the day, must be 35 years or more caravaning and we are still enjoying away as much as possible, going to Aus to see our  son and family back in March to get the van out.  gray62
