Cardiff Caravan & Camping Site - the good and the bad.
This story happened on: 04/09/2015
Over the last bank holiday we visited Cardiffand booked in our motorhome for four nights in the council owned and run caravan and camping site located adjacent to the SWALEC Cricket Stadium and minutes walk from the Millenium Stadium,CardiffCastleand the city centre. As a location for all attractions it couldn’t be faulted and we found the staff very welcoming but overwhelmed by the lack of support and resources needed to run an efficient site. There is no security and the public are allowed to wander around and just before we arrived we learnt that thieves had targeted two motorhomes and stolen bikes from rear racks. Regrettably locks did not deter them as they used bolt cutters and other lock removing gadgets to steal the bikes. The staff, who works from8.30 amto6pmonly, did warn us when we arrived and offered to put our bikes in secure storage areas which we did. The hard standing areas had been allowed to deteriorate and overgrown resulting in some pitches being very muddy and on occasions motorhomes stuck in mud. The toilets although reasonably clean really did need updating. On the good side on the site there is an excellent charity run bike hire shop and cafe.ButeParkis superb and ideal for cyclists with miles and miles of tracks plus other cafes on cycle routes to visit.CardiffCastleis one attraction that shouldn’t be missed and the Cardiff Bay Area has to be experienced.
