Caravaning by the river in Essex ! We want to transform our garden nursery into a great destination!

This story happened on: 24/03/2013

Our family run a garden nursery which I think has great potential as a brilliant caravaning/camping destination !

Only 15 minutes from Colchester, Cogeshall is a beautiful, traditional, small town. Our family have run the nursery there for 15 years and I feel it is a perfect site for a camping and caravaning experience. It has a lovely river running through it with landscaped gardens where the pitches could be made. We also have an award winning cafe that could do breakfasts for campers and has toilet and water fascillities. I would love feed back from anyone who thinks that this area would be popular with caravan club members. For me the river and the view across it of the bat willow plantation are stunning at any time of year.Kingfishers and other wildlife frequent this area so great for nature lovers. I would really appreciate some help here to see if we should develop this site for caravan club members.

This sounds lovely. I liked in Brightlingsea as a student and thought the area around Colchester was great.

I know exactly where you are and what you are talking about. For those who don`t, this is a lovely area and I believe it would make a great site. I am a little concerned as to how "wet" it might become at certain times of the year though. It is no secret that willow plantations do well on wet ground!

Your idea  sounds like heaven on earth.  There must be lots of people like us who go to the same places because we are no longer adventurous. We want familiarity  to avoid stress, peace and beauty, and to enjoy a break from  preparing food!   Breakfast would be doubly welcome on the morning of departure -  more time to pack safely instead of  hurrying because of  preparing and  washing up.    Also,   everyone we knows hates the journey from the South Coast to the east coast,.   and would love somewhere inbetween  to linger for a few days.

There are many places in your area that we would like to visit if we had an attractive base.  We wish you every success.

Why not get in touch with your local centre (N.Essex, I would think) and ask them if they would like a rally there, you will make some money from it and it will give you a taste of what it would be like to have a site.

This sounds ideal for a new CL, with minimal investment you may be able to make a few hard standings and access, some water and maybe electric hook ups, keep it minimal for maximum 'awayness', a simple drain connection for chemical washouts, go for it , locations of CL's is always a joy, done many with family and friends last many years, cost it, Go for it !
