Other uses for caravans

This story happened on: 30/05/2014

Dear Gary,

In reply to your editorial in the May edition on CC magazine I want to let you know what other puposes we use our caravan for other that the usual leisur persuits.

As a member, and past president, of the Rotary Club of Fleetwood we often let the club use our caravan for a variety of purposes including lost children’s centre on The Queen’s Jubilee Day, cashiers office for counting the collections at our community bonfire, but the most recent use was when we were asked to help The Stroke Association to mount a stroke awareness weekend and our 2008 four berth Coachman Pastiche was used as a mobile medical centre at Freeport Shopping Village in Fleetwood, with our awning serving as a waiting room.

The management allowed us to pitch the caravan in the middle of the pedestrianized shopping centre and two qualified nurses and a local doctors, who is also a member of our Rotary Club spent the weekend checking people’s blood pressure and offering advice on stroke prevention, whilst we Rotarians mingled with the shoppers and persuaded them that it would be good to have their blood pressure checked.

And to prove that the weekend was a worthwhile exercise, we potentially saved some lives because some of the people who thought that they were quite healthy were advised to go to see their G.P’s as soon as possible because of their very high blood pressure.

In the attached picture I am on the right with our currect president, George Ayoma, on the left.

Kind regards

Brian & Irene Pollitt

Thanks for sharing this Brian and Irene and it's great to hear your caravan has been used for such good causes. I will forward this story to Gary and keep up the good work! Smile
