Certified Locations ------ Don't expect too much

This story happened on: 08/07/2012

Our experiences with Certified Sites has taught me to Do as much research as possible ...... the Magazine reviews are a good source on CL sites --If a glowing detailed report can be read, it's better than relative silence.

Our 1st experience was (despite booking in advance) ----- arriving late on a Friday, we found 5 Units in occupation, and the Site Owner had gone out for the night!!!  With no power or water that was not good - although we did achieve a semi-partial hook up.

In June 2012 after a long 'bad weather' drive from the far Lake District we arrived at  The Black Lake Inn, near Stoke, Staffs.                Nothing was inaccurate about the details - but ........ it was just a field with hook ups, and the Inn is one of those which is now really a restaurant not a Pub. Dogs not allowed in the Pub.   Unless you were planning to spend the entire evening dining, it lacked a 'real Pub atmosphere'.         As I say, nothing was 'wrong' but I wished I'd been able to obtain a representative assessment - we would probably have selected another site.    Totally fine if you want purely an overnight stop journey-breaker & nothing more.

I'll be looking for more User Reviews for CL's in the future.

Problem with User Reviews is that they are subjective and not objective Ed and Jen - there is a  lot of opinion involved and what one person finds favourable, may not be your cup of tea.

Yes please review CL's! Have just been trawling the site looking for a CL in Devon and only found one review. Hence I am now trawling through all these comments in the hope of finding something. I prefer to book CL's that have a website which usually includes a picture. Some of the descriptions are very scanty and frankly tell you nothing. 1/2 an acre slightly sloping quiet..... and? When are the pictures going to be available?

I left a review for an excellent CL we stayed at in Much Wenlock this year and will now go and review all the CL's I have used in our 5 years of caravanning. As members I think we owe this to the owners as most are delightful people who allow us to share their lovely homes and farms. My husband and I have invested in a lovely Swift van with all mod cons so we do not need a loo or shower block, our children our grown so we have no need of a play area just peace and tranquility to read books, watch birds and walk our spaniels. CLs are the best in our opinion and we try to use them wherever possible. However as some members have commented the standards vary enormously so please please review them and let us all know what they are really like.

I always review CL's I visit and look forward to more reviews appearing on the club web site over coming months. However, in the meantime try 5van.co.uk for more info than you will find in the handbook.
