A series of unfortunate events.......... but we had to smile in the end!

This story happened on: 01/02/2012

This has been many years a go now, but a true story.  I can't remember the exact date, but I've guessed at it, I'm afraid.

One year we decided to go to a site called Creampots, near Broad Haven in Pembrokeshire.  I think it was the Spring Bank Holiday Half Term.  We had a good journey down, we were almost there - in fact just short of Haverfordwest, when the inevitable happened - the car overheated and we came to a standstill.  A quick phone call to May Day/ Green Flag and the tow truck arrived to load the car and caravan to take us to the Caravan Park, just the otherside of Haverfordwest.  We got there and set everything up.  The next day we arranged for the car to go in for repair - it was a hose, as far as I can remember but they checked the car out and kept it over night.

Being without car, the next disaster struck.  My wife was just coming out of the caravan, when she caught some uneven ground, went over on her ankle and broke a bone.  Now not having a vehicle to get her to hospital, I had little alternative but to call for an ambulance to take her to A&E where they checked it and supplied her with a cast.  We went to tell the site owner that an ambulance was on the way.  He was very helpful and insisted on picking us up from the hospital when we had finished, which very gratefully, he did.

The next day, was fairly uneventful.  We got the car back.  I went over to the toilet block and started talikng to a gentleman - as you do.  We were passing the time of day and he finished by saying, ".....and are you having a good time?"  "Yes!", said I, "...but we did end up arriving at the site on the back of a tow truck, having broken down the other side of Haverforwest, and.....".  Well before I had chance to tell the rest of the story, he butted in and said, "Oh! That's bad luck", he said, "....but not as bad as some."  He continued, "....there was one poor family who had to have an ambulance."  Can you imagine the look on his face when I said, "Yes, that was us as well."

In spite of what happened last tome we were at Creampots, we're thinking we might revisit it next summer.  Our holiday will be too short to make it to France because of a family wedding.  Creampots has featured in our discussions!!  Dare we!!!

Creampots, not happy memories for us I'm afraid. We had elected to stay in the UK  one year instead of heading for France as we usually do. Their website looked good and the reviews promising. Unfortunately the good old Welsh weather let us down and it rained every day for a fortnight. Our pitch was flooded to the extent that you took your shoes OFF to go into the awning from the caravan. The showers were awful with queues every day and I finally  found the chem disposal which was a toilet in a corner of the field. The warden had afixation with the grass even cutting it in the rain which then got walked into the showers. I'm sure the weather put the mockers on this holiday but I couldn't find anything about Creampots to recommend it.

did you make it back? Was it without incident this time? And, would you recommend the site now?
