THE LIZARD PEOPLE

For dog owners.

On our travels in Cornwall, September 2013 we ( my two Westies, Dougal and Misty and I ) stayed at a CL site called Little Trethvas on the junction of the A3083 and the road to Cadgwith, what a great little site that is it was soft standing with ehu and fresh water supplied from taps ( you need a hose which is common on a lot of sites in the South West so i’m told ), not a problem for me, still moving on, the loos were very clean and the owners husband and wife were very friendly indeed.

Although I spent most of my time in The Cadgwith Cove Hotel and pub, drinking, eating and performing magic and music ( but not at the same time ), I was amazed at the friendliness the people afforded my dogs, not only did they allow the dogs in the pub but also allowed them in their restaurant, you couldn’t do that in Maidstone, I thought it really unusual until I was told by the landlady and her husband that it was the norm on the lizard, moving on,

In the morning we went to the lizard village for some minor groceries in the butchers and a spot of breakfast at a nice little cafe tucked behind a pottery shop can’t remember the name of the shop, still when I enquired “ would it be alright if I had my breakfast outside as I had two dogs “ the cafe owner said, bring them inside and so Dougal and Misty sat next to me whilst I had a full breakfast, less two sausages, can’t imagine where they went to, and whilst we were in there, there were other dogs sitting with their owners eating breakfast, needless to say we used that cafe most days.

It was a bit of a shock to me, the people there were so dog friendly, compared to the South East of England where the health and hygiene matters are a little over the top, obviously the businesses in Cornwall have the foresight that a lot of money can be made by allowing dogs in their venues, and that most dog owners are responsible people who exercise their dogs first before entering an establishment and also know that some dogs don’t mix just like some people don’t mix and would act accordingly.

I hope this article will help those of you who are dog owners and are thinking of driving to Cornwall for your hols searching for dog friendly places, obviously I can’t guarantee that all venues in Cornwall allow dogs but on the lizard it’s common practice in most venues.

So to cut a long story short, for 2014 instead of going up to the Lakes and Scotland we will be back in Cornwall revisiting and spending our money with friends and the Lizard people.
