Dougal's Dog Blog. Entry 7: Planning for our trips

This story happened on: 23/04/2012

Like most Jack Russells, I'm not overly keen on getting wet. If it's raining, I'd rather be curled up asleep indoors in front of a warm fire, or failing that I like to surf the internet (with a little help from the Human That I Own) and plan trips away in the Tin Can on Wheels.

There are two great resources that we've found on the internet to help us plan trips away. One of them you're reading right now... we like reading the site reviews and stories on Club Together, and while we're on the Caravan Club website the Human will book up the site too.

The Human is always banging on about 'Being Green'. Yes, he's as green as the grass that I snack on sometimes, especially around the ears. But I think he means something else... something about cutting out on unnecessary waste. So when he's booked the site on the Club Website, he then downloads the site plan and the information leaflet, which he then looks at on his little magic slate (I think he calls it an Eye Pad or something). 'It saves paper, printing, and distribution' he tells me. I think the real reason is that he's messy, and the less papers we have in the caravan the easier it is to keep tidy. That, and I think he likes to flash his Eye Pad off to anyone who stands still long enough to yawn and roll their eyes.

Once he's downloaded his bits, I then log straight on to my favourite favourite website:

http://www.doggiepubs.org.uk

Notice it's 'dot org' and not 'dot co'.

We love this site. It's non-commercial, easy to use, and lists all the dog-friendly pubs in the UK by county. If we're in an unfamiliar area we use the map guide instead. All the pubs listed serve food, so the Human can munch away on his lunch while I sit there and look hungry. As for the kind of establishments listed, think log fires and beer gardens, not Sky Sports and jukeboxes.

Aye, there's nothing like a bit of armchair touring and excited planning from the comfort of ones very own dog bed. Pass the Scooby Snax...
