Dougal's Dog Blog. Entry 17: Bunree, Onich, Highland

This story happened on: 28/06/2012

While surfing Club Together a while back, I gazed on at the amazing picture of a Club Site that was being used as the background. Turns out that this wonderful idyll of a place is Bunree Caravan Club Site near Onnich.

Heading back from the CalMac ferry at Uig in Skye, it seemed like the perfect place for us to stop and unwind. Which is exactly what we did.

What a view! Right from our front window we could see across Loch Linnhe to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. Stunning.

But what of the doggy walk? Well, first and foremost there is a small beach area where I could wander about, but the pebbles were uncomfortably big for my tiny little paws. Fortunately the 'Dog Walk' is in a grassy bit in the estuary. It's only really a 'comfort break' area, but there is space enough to play a quick game of ball.

If that was all Bunree had to offer, a low Bone Rating would have been in the offing. But… The Human That I Own parted with the princely sum of 10 pence in exchange for a small guide to three woodland walks in the Inchree Forest, just across the road from the site, available from the very nice wardens.

It takes about fifteen minutes to walk to the car park that is the starting point for three of the four walks, which range from a little over a mile to up to ten miles.  LOTS of walkies opportunities.

We didn't get the chance to try any local hostelries, but the wardens said that the nicest ones were all a bit of a drive away. Therefore Bunree just misses a five-bone rating, coming in with a very respectable four bones out of five.

Mind you, when you are talking about a site in such an amazing location, I don't think that anyone is going to allow one little bone get between them and a stay at Bunree! Top dog.

Thanks Lola! Have a great trip! If you're going for a week you may be able to find out more than we did on our two night stay, so do fill us in when you get back. I hope we get to meet sometime on our travels.
