A Sunny Weekend in Somerset

This story happened on: 08/05/2012

When we arrived at the site we were greeted by the warden who advised us that the pitches were waterlogged and we might need help to get onto it (we thought they’re might be problems after ALL the rain last month) & all the hard standings had to be left for the Motorhomes.

He was VERY organised and asked all arrivals to park up in an orderly queue and  asked us to walk around the site and choose a pitch & he would then assist us onto it.

We chose our pitch quite quickly as the “orderly queue” was getting longer by the minute … he then walked us over to our pitch and helped us unhook and then attached our van to the tractor.

After several attempts we got on, as the ground had been churned up by the previous van trying to get off.

We then settlement down to beer and wine and started our “vegging out weekend”.

That evening we went to La Vela Italian restaurant in  Burnham and we’re glad we pre booked as the queue was out of the door most of the evening.

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful sunny day and we walked into Burnham to have lunch then caught the bus back late afternoon to sun ourselves outside the van.

Our neighbours even got the bar b q’s out.

Monday morning  arrived too quick & before we knew it we were hooking up to go home.

We were very apprehensive about towing the van off  but Jon put his X Trail into “diff  lock” and very slowly he pulled it off & we both  breathed a sigh of relief.

Our journey home could have been a nightmare as there was an accident on the Motorway and long tail backs, but our faithful Tom Tom  made us aware of this and diverted us via Cirencester and home.

Once again a GREAT weekend at Hurn Lane & we’re already looking forward to our next visit..
