Stourhead Park CL

This story happened on: 13/03/2012

We visited Stourhead Estate as a follow on to an Easter rally at Longleat.  Although only eight miles from Longleat, with the caravan attached you need to take a circular route of some 22 miles.  The cl is situated alongside the visitors centre to one side of the car park.  Although this sounds like you’re in the thick of it we found the site to be quite peaceful.  Hard standings are provided with electric hook ups.  Toilets are available at the visitors centre during opening hours.  On booking in we found that being National Trust members gave us a discount of two pounds a night – bonus!  This of course disappeared into the café in the form of cream teas and other assorted goodies.

The estate is a hidden valley stunningly landscaped in the 18th Century.  An amazing array of buildings, grottos and water features await you as you wander around the gardens.  An excellent place to visit if your into gardens or photography. During our visit Stourhead was holding a tulip festival and single colour drifts were laid out around the main house.  Every day we discovered some new wonder as we gradually explored the wooded valley.

Across from the visitors centre is a well stocked farm shop with a variety of delicious local produce.  A short walk into the village brings you to the Spread Eagle Inn whose menu is once again wide and varied.

A wonderful gem of a cl that we are looking forward to visiting again in the future.
