My Banjo Plight

This story happened on: 12/02/2014

Adrienne said to me once that if I learnt how to play the ukulele that I would be allowed a Banjo...I've wanted a banjo for a long time now, I have even tried in vain to get Adrienne to learn to play one, sadly to no avail!

Well about half a year ago now my good friend Matthew Kingston brought me a beautiful uke for my Birthday/Christmas present and to say I loved it was an understatement. I thought 'Yes! We're on track now!' I promptly wrote a few songs on Luna (the uke's official name) and we started opening our gigs with 'Nothing Can Get In The Way', a predominantly ukulele driven song about following your dreams even if it's difficult. The irony rings true when at this stage my dreams of having a banjo were still a far reverie!

Adrienne and I are big into following your dreams…it's what led us to selling pretty much all our possession to buying a campervan to tour the UK in the first place. Even though there were no promises at the start we had to give it a shot. Thankfully it has turned out well and our previous rusty tin has now changed into a shiny new Elddis Accordo and following our dreams has got that bit easier. We really believe that there are reasons for why we all have different dreams and passions in our hearts. We've seen good things come from those that step out on those aspirations they have. We've seen people flourish doing what they love..Jobs become such a big part of our lives and that's why we need to make sure the gifts we have are getting the exercise they deserve...it doesn't just have to be about work thought either, picking up old hobbies you used to love is just as fulfilling...James Dean once said “dream like you’ll live forever, live like you’ll die today” and we couldn’t agree more.

Anyway the long and short of my plight is that I got my banjo needs met in the end, not initially how I expected, but they sure were met! Yes, I did learn how to play a ukulele to get there, and No sadly I still cannot play the banjo... BUT Richard Kitson last week lay down some of the most banjolicious licks on our new album recording, that to be honest has satisfied my banjo longing for the next lifetime (ok well at least until our next recording!)...He did such a fantastic job and our new album is coming along in leaps and bounds! We cannot wait to get it to you! Just you wait until you hear that glorious banjo! :D

Was given a ukulele for my 70th birthday 16th Feb. I have a guitar, but would love to be able to own and play a banjo hillbilly style, will have to get my skates on. Hope you progress on the banjo.
