last minute gem

This story happened on: 06/06/2012

Hi

We have just come back from Hebden Bridge after struggling to find a last minute pitch,it being the jubilee weekend and all.

When i rang to book i was told "we are a no facility site".being new ,i though what the heck ,just go for it!

we took the wardens advice and left the M62 by junction 25 to miss a particularly bad bit of the route and we had no trouble finding the site with her directions. We actually did our usual trick and went wrong right at the end ,when we turned into the small CL site(just before the main site). On arrival we were greeted by our wardens, Who i have to say were lovely people(where do they find them).

No facilities ,i found out means no toilet block ,which caught me out but i should have realized. The site was immaculate and the pitches were large enough for us.

The wardens had organised a get together on the Sunday for the Jubilee ,but it was washed out due to the good old english rain( dont moan its good for the gardens! not.)We did manage to have the get together on the Monday were they had roasted meat buns and scones along with a selection of niblets.A boule competition was arranged( semi finalist) the sun came out it was a cracker and all the members loved it.We had a raffle as well and all the funds went to the Parkinsons Charity.

If I had to make an adverse comment it would be the lack of a toilet block,But on reflection if one was provided i think the site would never be empty.

I was told by one member that it was a site for proper caravanners and I was pleased that following my trail by rain and Loo i had become a proper caravanner

but my wife still doesn't call me this

If by PROPER caravanning you mean sensible enough to use your OWN loo without venturing across a field in the rain. Then join the rest of us and welcome.

Hi Chasq

Glad you enjoyed your stay at one of favourite sites. its one you can just keep going back to being such a lovely site with so many varied attractions close to hand

You will find a few "no facility sites" like Manesty Park near Keswick that are wondrful places to visit

Enjoy your caravanning
