Xàbia is seaside town and fishing port in the Province of Alicante. Its Valencian name (pronounced ‘Shabia’) is more commonly used locally than the Spanish title, Jávea. (‘Habea’).

The town flows down the hill from the old quarter to the port and marina. The bay then swings southward to the sandy beach at el Arenal. The local landscape is dominated by the ever-visible Montgo. There are plenty of walks and cycle paths around the town, through the orange groves, and across the hills and cliff tops.

Cycling down to the Avenue Marina Española to sit in the sun for morning coffee is a popular activity for campers and local ex-pats. At el Arenal there is a promenade with a plethora of small cafes and restaurants; however, right now the promenade has been dug up, end to end, for resurfacing. Dog walkers and Surfers can still get access to the beach.

It’s a pleasant almost genteel town with very little hint of ‘Best Roast on the Coast’ brashness. In addition to several supermarkets, there are ‘Chinese Bazars’ and two of the best ‘ferreteria’ you could ever want. So it’s an ideal stop for tourers wanting to stock up.

There are two campsites: ‘Camping Jávea’ near to the port, and ‘Camping Naranjal’ near to el Arenal. We’re at the former. It’s the eighth year we’ve stopped here for a week or so, so you can assume we like it! We’ve renewed acquaintanceships, including chums, Mick and Muriel.
