Postcard from El Berro 2015

This story happened on: 03/03/2015

Us ‘Oldies’ have a weakness for repetition, and so forgive us for yet again sending greetings from our favourite Spanish village and campsite: El Berro and Camping Sierra Espuña. It’s our eighth visit here and the tranquillity, the soft sounds of birds, bees, goat-bells and yes, frogs, in a backdrop of almond trees and mountains all seem to soothe the soul. Even the Spanish families who arrive at weekends are uncharacteristically relaxed.

When we arrived, most of Spain was still in the icy grip of Northerly winds, and we had to wrap up for our walks. The almond blossom is beginning to fall now but the bees are still busy finishing their task and have started on the wild flowers. Oranges and lemons are ripening as well.

Chas’s birthday this year was passed without the ceremony of last year (70th), but we had a few glasses of wine with our new chums, Dave & Jen, in the campsite bar.
We’ve been here nearly two weeks, and the weather has now changed to hot sun by day with chilly nights. We’re into T-shirts and shorts for our walks at last, so we’re hoping that the weather holds when we move down to Isla Plana this week, and Cath’s favourite open-air swimming pool!

Glad the sun is properly out for you now. We have driven twice across the full country from where you are to San Sebastian in February and loved to see the mile after mile of blossoming almond trees, they make a real picture especially when the land is undulating and they stretch as far as you can see.

I heard there is a new supermarket at Isla Plana now so would be interested in what you think of it for keeping you in groceries rather than having to make the trip to Mazarron? Regards, Roy

Wow that looks beautiful.  Another of the things on my bucket list, what I need is more non working time.  I want to put in a smiley face but it won't work..........................  continue to enjoy and belated birthday greetings.

Looks idyllic. It's on the list of places to stop this year so all being well we should be there too sometime in May.
