Picture Postcard from Krk

This story happened on: 27/09/2015

We arrived on the island of Krk on Wednesday by ferry from Cres. It’s our ninth visit to Croatia, and the sixth to Krk. Our last postcard from here was ‘Postcard from Krk 2013’, so this time it’s a ‘Picture Postcard’

We’re now just a 5 minute stroll from the town at Camping Jezevac: it’s a large, award-winning site but at this time of year only the sections nearest the water are open.  We’re just one row back from the water’s edge. At 31€ a night, this is the second-most expensive site we’ve been on this trip after Ferry Meadows!

We arrived in sunshine and had our last swim of season in the sea. Then along to the town for a walk along the harbour front

And around the old city.

Croatian ice-cream is as good as Italian!

However, the weather forecast proved to be right as the skies darkened..

A thunderstorm and heavy rain through the night led on to a wet and windy Thursday with brooding skies.

The sun returned on Friday, but the sunny hot days and swimming in the sea are over.

It was still warm enough to stroll into the town on Saturday

night for dinner by the harbour.

Today we’ve moved camp 3 miles to the other side of town and Camping Krk. It’s a sister site to Jezevac, but it’s in the ACSI discount scheme, and has a swimming pool. Just a couple of nights to see what it’s like. Roy and Sharon gave it the thumbs up earlier this year.

However, the Croatian Meteo is forecasting gale force winds tonight so the Cadaq Safari Chef is staying in its bag! So on Wednesday, it'll be farewell to Krk.

Great pictures and story. So looking forward to going there next June.

Stay safe on your travels.

(Chas, I tend to eat my ice cream with my chin too!!)
