Our Day Out in Vaison La Romaine

This story happened on: 18/08/2015

We’ve stopped on our journey south at Violés in the département of Vaucluse. Having explored all there is to see in the village, we set off this morning by bus to the ‘must see’ town of Vaison La Romaine. It’s only a 20 minute bus ride away.

We knew it was going to be market day, but the stalls filled every street and square. It’s hard to see what the town’s really like when it’s packed with shoppers and tourists!

We stopped for a coffee, and some jazz.

Across the Roman bridge to the medieval city and the castle.

Going up was tough

, but coming down was a bit perilous,

but soon became a bit easier.

Cath stopped for a view of the town and Mont Ventoux.

Back in the town, we had ‘panini in the park’ for lunch before having a look at the Roman ruins and the amphitheatre (from outside the fence – 8€ each to get in!).

We also had a look around Camping Theatre du Romaine (very nice site and friendly reception), which is only 5 minutes’ walk from the town. They only had two places free and high-season doesn’t finish until 22 August so price per night was similar to Ferry Meadows!

Back on the bus and we’re back at Camping des Favards. www.favards.com, a friendly family-run site attached to the Domaine de Favard. Nice pool and bar, and generous sized pitches; 100 sqm and 200 sqm.

Total expense for the day was 20€; bus fares 8, panini 8, coffe 2, icecreams 2.  Now looking forward to a Rest day/ laundry day tomorrow and fortunately the weather forecast is for more sunshine.
