Isla Plana Update

This story happened on: 14/03/2015

Not a lot has changed in the small Murcian seaside village of Isla Plana since we posted our ‘Postcard’* last year. However, we thought you might to like to see a few photos from this year’s visit to Camping Los Madriles.

We’re here for the walking, cycling and, above all, for the open-air geothermal pool. The weather since we arrived has turned from ‘sunny with chilly breezes’ to ‘sunny and hot’ this last week. It’s a good time to be here as the trees are coming into leaf; the blackbirds are singing; and, with the mass departure of the over-winterers, there are plenty of vacant parcelas.

We’ve cycled to Azohia, and taken the bus to Puerto Mazarron: we’ve also walked along the beach to the ‘Social’ where everyone meets for morning coffee, but Cath always insists on a least one dip in the pool each day!

Hi you two,

It is good to see the bay again, hopefully we shall be there again in October this year. I cannot believe I have got to see this before Brue, she must be away. We are off to Abbey Wood on Thursday for 10 nights to visit our son. I can’t see us sat outside on the campsite enjoying any sun!

Do you have any idea when the site gets full with those staying over the winter? Was there a mass exodus on a given date this year, I am just trying to understand what makes them seem to go on mass.

What is that new little supermarket like in the village is it sufficient to sustain you there without having to take a trip into Mazarron?

Glad to see you are enjoying yourselves, keep it up.

Best wishes, Roy

Hi Roy, three weeks ago you would have had to queue up to wait for a pitch here. Two weeks ago, we had a choice of pitches. The overwinterers we have spoken to, arrived here from September onwards, then they stay until early March.

The Coviron supermarket has everything you need, and there's the Ferreteria next door, a bank, pharmacia, and of course the village social club which is open to everyone. There's a caravanning shop as well.

It was cloudy this morning, but the sun is out again. Despite a chilly breeze, Cath is in the open air pool! Enjoy Abbey Wood:-)

Thanks for a quick reply to my questions. I have just finished reading the online Murcia news and it spoke of temperatures reaching 30C this week but unfortunately dipping towards the weekend again. Still it is a lot better than the very cold 5C here in East Yorkshire with some night frosts still! Enjoy your sun.

If you get the chance would you kindly enquire whether we would likely need to book for there for the first 3 weeks in October this year?

Regards, Roy

We left Los Madriles this morning, Roy, ahead of the forecast rain: we're now at Las Palmeras, Crevillente so can't ask How busy it'll be in October. However, you can't book Los Madriles anyway, so just turn up! We believe that the site doesn't get full up until December.

Thanks for the update. Will you be shopping for a Moroccan rug whilst you are there, I understand it is the place in Spain to buy one! enjoy the rest of your journey, light rain here! Regards, Roy
