El Berro Encore!

El Berro is a small village on the edge of the Sierra Espuña National Park in Murcia. It’s our favourite winter stop in Spain, and the campsite is our favourite too.

The village music festival was early this year, as was the blossoming of the almond trees, so we’ve missed both, although some blossom persists. There are another one thousand reasons for coming here: the scenery, the air, the sunshine, the birdsong and the sound of the bees, but above all the peace and tranquillity. It’s Saturday afternoon and all the Spanish caravans have come alive, so tranquillity has been suspended until Sunday evening!

There are quite a few serious cyclists (yellow lycra) and proper walkers (big boots and floppy hats), but we’ve found local walks for less strenuous outings of about an hour and a half. There are also two ‘Itinerario Touristique’ which start at the campsite entrance.

Fina’s shop is still going strong despite the opening of a second shop in the high street, aficionados of el Berro will be pleased to hear. We’ve made some new ‘chums’, and made a rendezvous with Nigel & Val whom we met here last year. The campsite is comparatively ‘busy’ and, as Cath says it’s my fault for recommending it in my Postcard from El Berro , I’m not allowed to tell you its name.
