Chasncath's Spring Outing

This story happened on: 07/04/2017

While Cath has continued her treatment and tests, we’ve had to forgo our annual Iberian expedition.  However, we’ve been out and about in our motorhome again in UK. Catherine’s tests are now every four weeks which has allowed us to venture out for more than just a couple of days.

We’ve not long returned from 13 nights away, taking advantage of the last of low-season rates before the summer season starts. First stop was Shrewsbury for 3 nights. We managed a trip on the river; a tour of the gardens, the stained glass windows of St Mary’s church, and a visit to Marks & Spencer.

Next stop was Betws y Coed
where we met up with chums Tony & Mary and David & Kathy, whom we first met at La Croix Valmer. T&M threw a dinner party in their van first night, and then we dined out the next evening (shaky-camera photo with bull’s ‘bits’ censored).

We all had a day out to Llandudno as well: it’s a nice resort with some style and no ‘tat’.

On line, Catherine found a little gem of a campsite just beneath the castle at Harlech .

None of the local taxi firms seemed interested in our custom, so we managed the climb to the castle in short in short sections, stopping every few minutes. We also took our time and made it to the beach.

We stopped at Aberdyfi , to take afternoon tea chez T&M, on our route south to Aberystwyth where we camped at Calarch Bay .

We took a taxi into town to see the sites – less than £5 each way – and to walk along the prom.

Last seaside stop was a campsite just behind the seawall at Aberaeron.  Just one night here but the sun shone and we bought chips, and then honey-flavoured ice creams.

Our last stop in Wales was near Montgomery , again by the river Severn. Catherine’s mum was a Montgomery and so she claims descent from Roger Montgomery, first Earl of Shrewsbury, and Bill the Conqueror’s best chum.

We’re off again next week to Woodstock in Oxfordshire, tests permitting, where Catherine is keen to visit Blenheim Palace. Hope it warms up a bit.

Good to see you out and about. I must admit we have only been to Wales a few times and it's on the to do list. Unlike yourselves we have not yet been away this year as Margaret is awaiting an appointment at the Rheumatoid Arthritis clinic at the hospital. She is is in quite a bit of pain at the moment and not sure she could cope in the van, I will keep working on her. Good to see the inclusion of the photos into the story, I will try an follow suit when I have a story to write!!!

Great to hear you're out and about. Lovely photos too, beautiful days by the look of those. Would be nice if it were warm but worse if it is wet! You did very well known Wales.

Hope Cath's tests go well. Looking forward to the next installment.

Ps like the way you've put the photos in 😃

Just as we all should. Adapt should be everyone's mantra, after all its a lifelong need 😉. Great to see positivity.

Rowena

Here is a challenge for you, how do we get the ability to imbed pictures like this into all stories without finding a work round?

I'm not sure if you can at the moment but I will ask the Your Stories template to be reviewed once we have resolved the current bugs we have been experiencing on the forum.

Any ideas on the other bug resolution Rowena?

Sorry for taking it off topic.
