Chasncath's Saturday Morning

This story happened on: 01/06/2015

On Saturday morning we set off from our campsite, along the promenade and over the hill to Le Lavandou. It's a half-hour walk which includes ninety steps down to the port. There is a 'promenade a caracater sportif' along the base of the cliff, but we prefer the road these days.

We stopped for coffee in the port. There never seems to be much activity in the marina, despite the sun shining and there being a breeze which would seem ideal for sailing. The port is home for island ferries; small fishing boats; a sailing school, and diving clubs.

Le Lavandou is a modern seaside resort, but retains a small picturesque old quarter. We strolled through the back streets looking at menus and designer clothes with varying degrees of interest.

It's the cherry season and we found this Ma & Pa Marchand de Legumes selling locally (Var) grown at 3€ a kilo. Cath also bought a Choux-fleur as part of her 'fasting diet'.

We then walked to the beach and promenade.

We were about to take a 'selfie' when a passerby offered to take our picture.

The sun was shining, it was pleasantly warm and time for a swim, so it was back up the ninety steps and back to our little bay, to get our cozzies on and to collect our beach kit. Our pitch is only 100 metres from the prom and beach.

Chas was first in, and quickly out again as the sea's only reached 20C so far.

(The beignet and glace vendor just in shot was being 'arrested' by two gun-toting Police Municipal for not having a valid licence - luckily he had sold lots before he was escorted off the beach. Only in France...)

Meanwhile, Cath was catching up on her 'Robert Goddard'. ( Cath then went in and swam her usual 200 strokes)

And here's a photo of Chas waving - can you spot him.

Thanks for the encouragement Oneputt :-)

We went back for some more cherries today but Ma & Pa had realized their mistake and the price was now 9.60€/Kilo!! The Carrefoure opposite is now selling cherries at 11€ / kilo !!! So we bought some strawberries instead.

Aagh, I remember our 12-night stay there last year with such fond memories and it will go down as one of our favourite European sites/locations. Will the regulars still be talking to you after this posting?!!

Just reading this on Orkney, chill winds blowing and me with a cough and cold, maybe we should have travelled somewhere warmer!? (You're not going to write a book or make a film are you...winky face or something!) We leave for Shetland tomorrow, hope you are having a good time.

LyinnB - hope you noticed that we didn't mention the campsite name!

Brue, nice to hear from you. You know that there are no trees on Shetland because of the constant wind: it's beautiful nonetheless. (got the wink;-))

Hi Chas & Cath, love the photos. All your time & effort to upload them is appreciated. Our cherries are only 40 kuna a kilo but then you are in France after all. Regards, Roy
